Adam Lambert recently joined Katya Zamolodchikova to discuss his latest solo EP, ‘Afters,’ and his career with Queen.
When the host asked him whether he ever thought he’d play with the ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ band, the singer shared, “No, none of this. This all has been surreal, pinch me, full circle like, ‘How did I get here?’ And a lot of imposter syndrome, especially coming out of American Idol.”
“I was like, ‘I don’t deserve this. Someone’s going to take this away from me any minute,’” he added.
Lambert joined Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor in 2011 to step in for Freddie Mercury during live shows. The trio went on tours in 2014–2015 and 2017–2018. They returned for the North American dates in 2019, wrapping it all up earlier this year.
After ‘The Rhapsody Tour’ ended, Lambert released a new studio album called ‘High Drama’ and an EP he described as ‘horny’ and ‘dance house.’
“I had so much fun putting them together. It’s very dance, house,” the singer said of the record. “I found myself at a point, over the last couple of years, during the pandemic, when we had time to sit and think a little bit. I was just like, ‘You know what? I need to follow my instincts a little more. I need to say fuck it. I want to do what I want to do more than I had been doing.’”
Currently, Adam Lambert is working with Auli’i Cravalho in the Broadway production of ‘Cabaret.’ They will play Emcee and Sally starting from September 16.
