Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer for their critically acclaimed series The Devil’s Hour (2022). Stars Peter Capaldi (Doctor Who) and Jessica Raine (Call The Midwife, Becoming Elizabeth) will return as Gideon and Lucy for the supernatural crime thriller. Season 1 followed a social worker, Lucy Chambers, who has terrifying visions every night at 3:33 a.m., also known as “the devil’s hour”, and explores her mysterious connection to a killer, Gideon Shepherd, his knowledge of Lucy, and the nightmarish phenomena she’s experiencing.

Season 1 ended with a cliffhanger after revealing Lucy’s connection to Gideon and the recent murders in the story. The series was originally conceived as a trilogy, and the show was already been renewed for both a second and third season back in November 2022. The first season of The Devil’s Hour was hugely well-received upon release, and boasts an incredible 88% audience score and 95% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as being nominated for an Emmy Award.
What to Expect In The Devil’s Hour Season 2
Season 2 of the Emmy-nominated thriller will follow Lucy Chambers who, after an unexpected tragedy, grapples with her present and former lives while the tenuous state of the future looms. In the trailer, Gideon can be heard tempting Lucy into a precarious team-up. Prime Video has provided an official synopsis for Season 2 in a recent press release that reveals Lucy will indeed form this uneasy alliance with Gideon. The synopsis reads:
“Lucy’s double life sees her torn between family and duty as she finds herself in the crosshairs of her past-life husband, DI Ravi Dhillon (Nikesh Patel). Assisting Dhillon in his investigation is DS Sam Boyd Saffron Hocking) who was mentored by DI Lucy Chambers in a previous life. Meanwhile, Isaac (Benjamin Chivers) is discovering new emotions every day and struggling to keep his balance in a reality that rejects his existence. Fresh mysteries unfold as our stories converge on one explosive moment that will change the fate of our characters for the rest of their ever-recurring lives.”
The new season will feature several new cast members, including Saffron Hocking as Sam Boyd, a detective who worked under Lucy in a past life. Nikesh Patel and Phil Dunster return as detective Ravi Dhillon and Mike Stevens, Lucy’s estranged husband. While speaking at Prime Video Presents: Trailblazers, Jessica Raine teased season two, saying:
“Season two answers lingering questions from Season one, offering a thrilling experience filled with hidden Easter eggs. The audience becomes the detective, piecing together a jigsaw puzzle which you have to keep watching. If you really concentrate, you are rewarded, and the reward is truly satisfying – like completing a 2000-piece jigsaw puzzle.”
