As CAA’s co-head of international touring, Chris Dalston, recently revealed to Pollstar, The Power Up Tour by AC/DC saw 1.5 million tickets sold in only one day.
AC/DC announced the Power Up Tour dates on February 12, 2024. They also said Chris Chaney would take over for Cliff Williams as the new bassist on tour. After saying that they had to think about many things while organizing the tour, Dalston spoke about the ticket sales:
“We believed it was going to be one of the biggest tours ever, but you just never know until you put tickets on sale. It’s like Christmas the night before we went on sale. You can’t sleep, you’re nervous. I woke up at 2:30 or 3 in the morning and Europe had already opened — and we’d sold out some of the shows already. They sold 1.5 million tickets in one day. … It’s staggering, and it gives you great faith because they’re very particular in how they conduct their business.”
AC/DC Wants Reasonable Ticket Prices
The band’s approach to ticket sales is different. Dalston explained:
“They don’t do VIP. They don’t do dynamic ticket pricing. They never want to hear fans complaining about ticket prices being too high. There’s also a point where we have to push it a little bit because otherwise, they couldn’t afford to tour — especially when they’re playing one day on, three days off. … Obviously, the goal is to hopefully have them continue if they enjoy it, and it works well … to try to keep them out in ’25, ’26, ’27, however long they want to go, but we gotta get through Europe first.”
Other Details Of The Upcoming Tour
It will be AC/DC’s first tour in eight years. A week before their announcement, the band hinted at the tour with a short clip. They wrote in the caption:
“Are you ready?”
In the comment section, many fans wished the countdown to be a tour. They were right, as the big news came next week. A few days ago, the band also announced The Pretty Reckless as their opener. The Power Up Tour starts on May 17 at Veltins Arena in Germany and ends on August 17 in Dublin, Ireland.
