‘The Greatest Night in Pop,’ director Bao Nguyen is now working on a new music-themed project: a feature-length documentary about Jimi Hendrix.
The documentary is called ‘Jimi,’ and Double Agent, Network Entertainment, and Experience Hendrix produce it. It’s the first full-length documentary about Hendrix that his estate officially approves.
The movie will cover a key time in music history when Hendrix made a huge impact with his guitar. It will follow his rise to fame in the 1960s, including his performances in London and his famous set at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.
“Telling the story of Jimi Hendrix during his pivotal years in London is both a profound honor and a unique responsibility. London has always been a city that inspires me,” the director said of taking on the challenge of ‘Jimi.’
“Having lived there, I felt a deep connection to its creative energy, much like Jimi did when his creativity reached extraordinary heights” he continued. “I approach this project with deep respect for his legacy and the cultural significance he holds as an American original.”
“Through this film, I hope to capture the vibrant atmosphere of the 1960s music scene, and his meteoric rise to superstardom, culminating in the legendary show at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival – a triumphant homecoming where his incendiary performance didn’t just set his guitar alight – it ignited a cultural shift that changed the course of music history,” Nguyen added.
There have been a few high-profile unauthorized Hendrix documentaries in the past, including ‘From The Monkees To The Hollywood Bowl’ last year and ‘Electric Lady Studios: A Jimi Hendrix Vision.’
There are no details about when the new documentary will be released yet.
