Duff McKagan revealed what he and his Guns N’ Roses bandmates Axl Rose and Slash talk about in their WhatsApp group chat.
“So many dad jokes,” the bassist told Guitar Interactive Magazine’s Jonathan Graham. “Dad jokes are so great because they’re so f*cking dumb. You try to get the dumbest joke you can. Like, hey, Bono and the Edge walk into a bar, and the bartender says, ‘Not U2 again.’”
After releasing two singles, ‘Perhaps,’ and ‘The General,’ last year, Guns N’ Roses is working on new music. “Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. There’s new material,” McKagan confirmed during a June appearance on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk.
The rocker continued, “I don’t know how we’re gonna put it out. I think that’s a question too. Like, do you put out a record? Do you just keep putting out singles? I don’t know what the right answer is there in this day and age.”
Slash also previously said the band was planning to release new material. The guitarist told the Daily Star, “Guns N’ Roses are trying to make their own record and I’m working with them in that capacity but this didn’t involve anyone else.”
In May, McKagan also discussed GNR’s songwriting process with American Songwriter. “A great thing about being in a good band is where people are open to suggestion and also you don’t get butthurt when your suggestion gets, ‘Yeah, how about we go this way?’” the bassist stated.
Duff added, “A good band is you can function like that and you all want just to serve the song and like, ‘Let’s all collectively get the best song out of this.’ That was so true with Guns. We just wanted to write the best songs we could. We all pushed each other and writing as a band you need that. You need to push each other. You got to be motivated and be really open.”
Guns N’ Roses has no scheduled dates for this year but in 2025, the band might announce a tour and new music considering the band members’ statements.
