Yungblud wants to show how Led Zeppelin would sound in 2025.
“[Rock] holds its morals tightly – rap gives it away quick, whatever’s poppin’, whatever’s a hit, it gives it the crown,” the singer told Kerrang! in a new interview. “Pop music, whatever’s a hit, it gives it the crown.”
He continued, “Rock music is a very sacred territory because it’s painful to be a rock fan, and in the past when people have called me a plastic punk or a fake rocker or whatever, that’s part of the f*cking journey into trying to navigate this genre and belong to it. And f*ck yeah, I’m down for it and I’m down to f*cking rock ’til I’m dead.”
“I want to make a straight-down-the-middle classic rock record that sounds like what the f*ck Zeppelin would sound like in 2025,” Yungblud shared about his future goals. “It’s deep and it’s mental – it’s a f*cking rock opera.”
The musician added, “The first song is nine minutes long with two guitar solos in it. We’re going big with orchestras. We got to this point and position where we’re like, ‘Right, what do we love? We love rock music. How do we push it forward but also adhere to what we f*cking love? Let’s make a record that we love listening to!’”
Yungblud also tweeted about rock music last month, “Rock music only survives if we keep evolving the genre, playin’ it our own way and passing along the f*ckin batton. The amount of love between us all at the minute is so f*ckin’ crazy.”
He stated, “To see you all, meet you all and talk to you all about wanting to start bands is the sickest sh*t ever!!! if i play even the tiniest part in that journey for you I’m f*ckin’ honoured. Rock isn’t dead, it’s just different. Pass it on. I’ll see you all at BLUDFEST.”
Yungblud previously received appreciation from the Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. The singer said he thinks Yungblud and Machine Gun Kelly bring a fresh post-punk vibe, and show that rock and roll still has some life left.
