Earlier, the rapper was spotted at the basketball Olympics semi-final game.
French authorities confirmed they have taken rapper Travis Scott into custody after an alleged attack on a security guard at the five-star George V hotel on Friday morning.
“I can confirm that on August 9, 2024, police officers were called to the George V hotel and arrested the rapper nicknamed Travis Scott for assaulting a security guard,” the Paris prosecutor’s officer said in a statement.
Scott allegedly attacked the guard after he attempted to break up an altercation between the 33-year-old rap star and his bodyguard. Referencing the guard, the prosecutor’s office said “the latter himself had intervened to separate the rapper from his bodyguard. The Paris public prosecutor’s office has referred the case to the 1st district of the judicial police.”
French prosecutors told the Reuters and AFP news agencies they had opened a criminal investigation into “unspecified violence” against the guard.
Earlier in the evening, Scott attended the semi-final of the men’s Olympics basketball, where the French basketball team beat Germany to advance to face the U.S. in the final. Posting on X, Scott described the match as “f**king wildddddd.”
The FranceInfo radio network, quoting sources close to the incident, said at the hotel Scott appeared to be heavily drunk and agitated and refused to cooperate with taking a breathalyzer test.
The 10-time Grammy winner was arrested in Miami less than two months ago for disorderly intoxication and trespassing after getting into a dispute with a boat crew on a chartered yacht. Scott was released on bond after paying $500 on the disorderly intoxication charge and $150 on the trespassing charge. His attorney said that the incident was a simple “misunderstanding.”
Scott has not yet commented on the Paris arrest. His team did not immediately respond to comment.
