In a new chat with Andrew Daly of Rock Candy magazine, Joe Perry discussed what’s next for Steven Tyler in Aerosmith.
Aerosmith’s last new album came out 12 years ago in 2012. The band is now continuing their Peace Out tour, which stopped in September 2023 because Tyler had vocal issues. Fans worried he might not sing again. Perry said:
“It was pretty heavy. Imagine being told that you might not ever do it again. It all can be taken away so easily.”
The guitarist also talked about potential new music from Aerosmith:
“There’s definitely a possibility. I know that Steven [Tyler, Aerosmith singer] has got some stuff in his back pocket, so we’ll see. I’m currently writing stuff for a new Hollywood Vampires album, but after that… What we are definitely doing is remixing some of the early Aerosmith stuff and finding some interesting outtakes, so it’ll be fun to look at that stuff.”
Details Of Tyler’s Vocal Struggles
Shortly after their Peace Out shows started, Aerosmith postponed them because Tyler hurt his vocal cords badly on September 9. They thought 30 days was enough for him to recover, but the vocalist needed more time. Aerosmith said at the time:
“To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx, which requires ongoing care.”
Their statement continued:
“He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential. As a result, all the currently scheduled Peace Out shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more.”
The frontman also released a statement, saying:
“‘I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers, and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!’ – Love, Steven.”
Tyler’s condition got better day by day. In November 2023, the singer was in the studio with Aerosmith but they gave no tour update. He posted on Instagram about remixing old songs. In February 2024, he said his throat was better but not fully healed. In April, Aerosmith announced new tour dates with the Black Crowes. It will start on September 20 and end on February 26 in Buffalo, N.Y.
