That’s a wrap on James Gunn’s Superman. The new reboot, which stars David Corenswet as the titular Man of Steel, is set to hit theaters in the middle of 2025, and Gunn recently announced that principal photography has officially been completed. The project will kickstart Gunn’s rebooted DC Universe (which just got a shiny new logo at SDCC), as James Gunn and Peter Safran take the reins of the comic book movie studio.
To celebrate production coming to a close, James Gunn took to social media to share a photo from the very first day of shooting., which you can check out below. The photo features Gunn, Corenswet, and Nicholas Hoult, alongside other members of the cast and crew on a freezing set in Norway. Numerous set photos have been leaked by keen fans and paparazzi during the film’s shooting in Cleveland, so a set photo released by James Gunn himself makes for a nice surprise.
In the post’s caption, Gunn thanked everybody involved with the film’s production. The director said that his Superman movie is a film about “a good man in a world that isn’t always so much.” The full caption read:
“And that’s a wrap. God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life. I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart.
It has been an honor. The destination has been Superman, but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set – and for that I am forever grateful. (Photo from our first week of shooting in Svalbard Norway.)”
DC Studios Was Absent From SDCC 2024
Despite being one of the largest comic book media companies in the world, DC Studios were notably absent from this year’s San Diego Comic Con, the nerd event of the year. While Marvel Studios wiped the floor with Hall H, unveiling new footage from Captain America: Brave New World, Fantastic Four: First Steps, and revealing that Robert Downey Jr. will be the MCU’s Doctor Doom, Gunn and DC Studios were nowhere to be found.

Isabella Merced, who will portray Hawkgirl in the upcoming Superman movie, did not hold back her admiration for David Coremswet’s Man of Steel.
On the opening day of SDCC, DC Studios Co-President Peter Safran addressed why DC wouldn’t be attending the largest comic book convention in the world. It’s been just over a year since Gunn announced his new plans for the DC Universe, and the pair agreed that it was too soon to host a full presentation at SDCC. Safran said:
“From my perspective, it’s just too soon. A year is truthfully a long time for a campaign and so, from our perspective, I think we go stronger and harder over a shorter period, rather than stretching it out. That’s our instinct on that. Believe me, there’s gonna be no shortage of Superman in your life over the next 12 months.”
Superman
is scheduled to fly into theaters on July 11, 2025.
