Susan Heyward, star of The Boys, has opened up about an Easter Egg that fans noticed about her character, Sister Sage, and its connection to a fan-favorite character from the first three seasons, Queen Maeve. Introduced in The Boys Season 4, Heyward’s Sister Sage is known for having a strategic mind, which makes her the smartest person in the world.
Sister Sage’s storyline has been intriguing from start to finish. She initially aligns herself with Homelander, the series’ primary antagonist to help him dominate America on the condition that he would trust her and follow her plan. However, as the season progresses and Homelander grows distrustful, he fires Sage for knowing all along A-Train was “the mole.” Naturally, Homelander’s own plan fails and in the season finale, Sister Sage returns and reveals that her apparent downfall was all part of her grand scheme.

Throughout the season, fans noticed that Sister Sage’s diary, which she probably uses to outline her plan, has Queen Maeve on the cover. And in the last episode, we see her picking up the notebook before walking away. In an interview with TV Line, Heyward hinted at her character’s connection to the former member of the Seven.
“I’ve talked to them, and I floated a couple of pitches. They have let me know they’re thinking of some things, as well, but nothing that I could share here. That’s for next season.”
Dominique McElligott’s Queen Maeve played a significant role in the first three seasons of The Boys. Her character was seen struggling a lot under Homelander’s maniacal and oppressive rule. In Season 3, Queen Maeve’s arc concluded with her faking her death to start a new life with Elena. But it’s possible her story isn’t over yet.
Sister Sage’s mention of “Phase Two” in the final episode of The Boys Season 4 also sets up several exciting storylines for Season 5. Apparently, a war between Supes and the Boys, a conflict that has been brewing throughout the series, is about to occur. When asked about the ominous ending, Heyward commented by saying,
“In a very Sage-like way, I have all of these different versions in my head. I have the version in my head where she goes for world domination. I have the version in my head where she flips and shows herself to be a champion of humanity, and she’s been just positioning herself to protect humanity this whole time. I have a version in my head where she’s a complete agent of chaos and just likes to keep pushing the table over. All of those sound fun to me as an actress. I’m open to all of them. But the writers’ room is open right now. I will find out probably when I arrive to set, and things will probably change again then. So I guess the answer to your question is, I hope it will reflect the world back to itself, clearly, and I know it’s going to be fun to play. I’m grateful.”
