Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for Deadpool & Wolverine.
The release of Deadpool & Wolverine is now imminent, meaning that Marvel fans will finally get to learn which of the many, many (and we mean many) cameo rumors were true. One such long-standing rumor has been that Man of Steel and The Witcher actor Henry Cavill will make an appearance as one of the X-Men, either Scott Summers, aka Cyclops or the one and only Wolverine himself. A popular fancast for both roles, some ferocious new fan art will have fans hoping to see the latter depicted in live-action someday…
“Title: MCU Wolverine Concept. Wolverine: “I’m the best there is at what I do, but what I do best isn’t very nice,” artist 21xfour says in a caption alongside the image, which finds Cavill sporting the spiky hair, chunky sideburns, and sharp adamantium claws of the beloved Marvel icon. You can check out the stunning artwork below.
Of course, Hugh Jackman is all set to reprise the role of Wolverine alongside Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in Deadpool & Wolverine, with the actor expected to return again in Avengers: Secret Wars. But, with long-standing rumors claiming Cavill will play the character in the MCU going forward, or that he will at least make a cameo as the character in the Deadpool sequel, this artwork will surely have fans hoping to see the casting come to fruition…
Will We Ever See Henry Cavill as Wolverine in the MCU?
Henry Cavill featuring as an X-Men variant in Deadpool & Wolverine has been a hot rumor for some time but, now that the movie is out, does it actually happen? Look away now if you want to avoid SPOILERS as the answer is “yes”, Cavill does indeed feature as an alternate Logan. Looking a lot like he does in the fan art above, Deadpool & Wolverine introduces Cavill as a much bulkier version of the character, utilizing his “arm reload” move from Mission: Impossible – Fallout before punching Deadpool back through the Inter-Dimensional Portal from whence he came. And that’s all we’ll spoil for now.

The MCU outing is expected to be brimming with cameos and surprises, and the studio has gone to great lengths to keep these surprises under wraps (though this has seemingly come to an end, at least in part, thanks to the recent screening of the movie at SDCC), with Reynolds having previously teased that “anything could happen.”
“I don’t think straight-up dishonesty is in the cards for us right now […] You know, movies like this are — there’s so many — just so much speculation about so many people that might end up in the film. You know, I saw one that was convinced Elvis was in the movie [laughter]. Anything could happen and that’s sort of what I love about this universe and this world. We’ll see. Surprises are the essence of Deadpool.”
Directed by Shawn Levy from a screenplay he wrote alongside Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick, and Zeb Wells, Deadpool & Wolverine stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as Deadpool and Wolverine, respectively, and finds the pair joining the MCU after being tasked by the Time Variance Authority (TVA) with a new mission. A mission that will see them travel across the madness of the multiverse.
