Metallica made an effort to honor Jason Newsted in a new Instagram post, but fans are unhappy.
The band shared the bassist’s photo and wrote in the caption:
“Now’s your chance to own a piece of history as more than 60 pieces from Jason Newsted’s personal guitar and bass collection are up for grabs on Reverb.com. Check it out at metallica.lnk.to/Newsted-Reverb – LINK IN BIO.”
What Do Fans Think About Metallica’s Acknowledgement Of Newsted?
In the comment section, fans have mostly criticized the band as they think Newsted doesn’t get the value he deserves. One person wrote:
“Finally acknowledging him?”
Another one said:
“Kinda surprised the social media team is allowed to recognize Jason.”
One other commenter also mentioned the importance of Jason for Metallica:
“Jason deserves more than just a post, he is the spirit of hardcore within Metallica.”
Another fan asked for a reunion show with Newsted:
“You should do a performance, or a tour with Jason on bass again, Jason was part of a remarkable time for the band, it would be fantastic.”
Newsted Sells Many Important Instruments
Newsted is selling instruments from his collection through Reverb. The Official Jason Newsted Reverb Shop opened on July 24 and includes basses used on Metallica’s ‘…And Justice for All’ and the ‘Black Album’ tours, as well as for recording their music. The rocker said in a statement:
“I’m teaming up with Reverb to sell some pieces from my collection for the very first time. The last 30 or 40 years as I’ve traveled around playing music for people, I’ve gathered some cool sh*t.”
He added:
“I traveled the world to collect these pieces and many of these pieces have traveled the world with me. I’d like to get them into the hands of other players because I can only play so many at once, and wonderful guitars such as these should not live in cases forever…they deserve to be enjoyed!”
One of the most important items for sale is Newsted’s 1992 Alembic Europa Custom 10-string bass. He used it on stage during Metallica’s 1991 ‘Black Album’ tour. He said the following about the instrument:
“This is a very special piece of metal history and it’s one of one. This thing is a beast…you have to be a straight bada** to carry it, let alone play it.”
Jason is also selling his 1989 Alembic bass, featured in a Metallica documentary, and a rare PRS bass used on the ‘…And Justice for All’ tour. Another key item is his 5-string fretless Zon bass from the recording of ‘Until It Sleeps,’ with studio markings still on it.
