In a new interview with People, Adam Lambert discussed his career and admitted that he isn’t afraid of losing his career anymore.
Lambert shared his belief that the music industry has changed a lot in the last few years and that it helped him feel more free. And it seems that this is why he feels like he has nothing to lose:
“So I guess I don’t really feel like I have anything to lose. That kind of feeling, when that feels very true, it’s a good feeling. I think I’ve worked really hard for a really long time. I’ve sort of earned my spot and I feel secure in it. I feel like I’ve had an amazing couple years of doing a lot of really cool separate projects, and more and more things are on the horizon.”
The singer also explained how time and experience helped him let go of fear:
“I guess that kind of proves to me that there’s nothing to be afraid of. There’s no fear of, ‘Oh, will this get taken away from me?’ Which I think early on, that kind of was in the back of my head… I think time and experience and opportunities have sort of proven to me that there will always be another project. There will always be something else I get to be a part of. So there’s no fear.”
The ‘Double Standards’ Of The Music Industry
The current singer of Queen has been touring with the band since 2014. He also works on his own solo music and talks openly about sex and sexuality in his songs. But there are some things in the music industry that bother him.
In another interview, Lambert was asked about his new projects and how fans or the industry would react to the sound of it. In response, Lambert addressed the double standards of the industry and revealed that people reacted differently when he did exactly what ‘heterosexual men’ did:
“I had to play the game at that point because I wasn’t going to lose my opportunity. So I just kept moving forward and doing my thing. And obviously, there’s a lot more to me than just my sexuality, but that is a big part of who I am. Romance and sex and heartbreak, we see all of our favorite hetero artists sing about all that stuff all the time. So I was always a little frustrated with the double standard early on, because I was like, ‘Well, why can’t I?’ The game, for a while, became me asking how I could push things.”
The singer ‘lost some fans’ throughout his career after coming out, but that didn’t stop him. After Idol, Lambert became the cover of Rolling Stone and also the first openly gay person to have an album debut at the top of the Billboard charts.
In other news, the singer released a new EP called ‘AFTERS’ a few days ago. You can hear it down below.
