Warning! The Following Contains SPOILERS for Cobra Kai Season 6 — Part 1.Netflix may have just taken its first Crane kick to the face where its Karate Kid spin-off is concerned. Cobra Kai Season 6 is finally here, but the show’s Rotten Tomatoes scores are by far the worst of the entire streaming series. At the time of this writing, Cobra Kai Season 6 — Part 1 registers a series-low 89% audience score. In fact, Season 6 is the only season in Cobra Kai’s illustrious run to not crack the 90% ceiling or better. Check out the streaming series’ season-by-season RT audience scores below:
- Season 1: 95%
- Season 2: 91%
- Season 3: 91%
- Season 4: 92%
- Season 5: 92%
- Season 6: 89%
While enemies-turned-friends Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and their karate students enjoy a time of peace in the Valley, John Kreese (Martin Kove) is working abroad to prepare a new Cobra Kai squad to compete in the upcoming Sekai Taikai. Perhaps, there’s not enough conflict in the first five episodes, which encompass Part 1 of Season 6. Could that account for Season 6’s lower score?
In fact, the most emotional character arc provided during Part 1 is arguably that of Tory Nichols (Peyton List). Tory’s mother dies, and the young woman’s suffocating grief drives her away from Miyagi-Do and back into the arms of her father-figure-esque mentor, Kreese. Is a lack of drama what’s causing Cobra Kai’s scores to slip for the first time in the streaming series’ history? Whatever the cause, the critics have also noticed.
Cobra Kai Season 6 Registers Lowest Tomatometer Rating of Entire Series
The critics’ reviews of Cobra Kai Season 6 have also led to a series-low Tomatometer rating of 82% for Netflix’s Karate Kid spin-off show. And like the Rotten Tomatoes audience score received by showrunners Hayden Schlossberg, Jon Hurwitz and Josh Heald’s Miyagiverse entry, Cobra Kai Season 6 — Part 1 was the first season that didn’t crack the 90% mark on the RT Tomatometer. Check out Cobra Kai’s season-by-season Tomatometer ratings below:
- Season 1: 100%
- Season 2: 91%
- Season 3: 90%
- Season 4: 95%
- Season 5: 98%
- Season 6: 82%
As Cobra Kai Season 6 — Part 1 comes to a close, Miyagi-Do’s karate team arrives in Barcelona, Spain to compete against the other squads in the Sekai Taikai. And while plenty of footage teased the worldwide competition, what the Cobra Kai Season 6 official trailer kept secret was that John Kreese (Kove) would reveal his presence to Daniel (Macchio) and Johnny (Zabka) for the first time at the event.
And Kreese was flanked by an angry and grieving Tory Nichols (List), who is now a part of his new and extremely dynamic Cobra Kai roster. When List was asked by Perri Nemiroff what it is that Tory can get from Kreese, that she can’t seem to find from anyone else, the actress said (per Collider):
That’s a really good question. I think what she can get from him is being his number one, and she can’t be anyone else’s number one.
