Jane’s Addiction rocker Dave Navarro has admitted that he didn’t make any music for about a year when the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away.
In a new interview with Guitar World, the guitarist said he and Taylor Hawkins had finished recording an album together before the Foo Fighters drummer passed away. The loss hit Navarro hard, and he didn’t play guitar for a whole year as a result:
“I’ll be honest – I didn’t pick up the guitar for about a year. And because he was such an inspiring artist… Not only was he a phenomenal drummer, but he was also an amazing songwriter and lyricist, and he was just one of those humans that everybody loved. Everybody loved him.”
How Navarro Got Back To Music
Though Hawkins was mostly recognized as a drummer, Navarro acknowledged that his skills went beyond just drums. While mourning his friend’s loss and dealing with his own health challenges, Navarro later found peace and started playing music again. He added in the same interview:
“For the first year after losing Taylor, I didn’t play for a long time. Then, about a year into it, I picked up the guitar, started playing some cover songs, and just kind of got used to the instrument in my hand again.”
In March 2022, Hawkins was supposed to perform with the Foo Fighters when he felt chest pains. Medical help was called, but when they arrived, Hawkins was unresponsive. Though trying to revive him with CPR, he passed away at 50 years old.
