Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford sat down with Lifeminute to discuss his music career and his influences.
During the chat, the singer picked a few names as his inspirations. He named both male and female singers, which included Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale. He said:
“Ronnie’s one as I’ve said. I’m going probably to use a lot of singing this year. My friend Robert Plant, my friend Roger Daltrey, my friend Ian Gillan, who has a new album out right now. Incredible. And then some of my lady friends like Lzzy Hale and Maria [Brink] from In This Moment and Dolly, love my Dolly. Who would [have known] that the metal God was going to sing with Dolly Parton at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Is that amazing or what?”
He then went on to add some classic names:
“So there’s a few. Willie Nelson, love Willie’s voice. Elvis, love Elvis’s voice. Sinatra, love Sinatra’s voice. Everybody in everywhere, singers are just very extraordinary people in the way that this is the instrument. We don’t pick up sticks or play keyboards or hold guitars the instrument is within us. So when we perform it’s coming from a very special place.”
Hale’s Gift To Halford
Hale and Halford’s friendship goes way back.
In an interview with Metal Hammer, Halford talked about some photos he posted on Instagram. In the pictures, he was wearing a tailored sports coat, a tie with white skulls, leather gloves, jeans, a cowboy hat, and spiked platform heels.
Apparently, the heels were gifted to him by Hale after they chatted about her heels. Halford said of the shoes:
“Those heels were given to me by the beautiful Lzzy Hale, from Halestorm. When Priest were on tour in New Zealand we worked with Halestorm and I was chatting to Lzzy backstage and she had those particular heels on her feet. I was going, ‘Oh my God, how do you even walk in them?’ She said, ‘Oh, you know, it’s a girl thing…’ But they looked so powerful and they scream ‘heavy metal!’”
