In a recent interview with Spain’s RockFM, Scorpions guitarist Rudolf Schenker was asked about the potential for his brother Michael Schenker to reunite with the band before they retire. He revealed his brother’s goal that has been preventing the possibility of a reunion — trying to be the best guitarist:
“When you want to be one of the best guitar players in the world, it’s very hard to be in a band, because you have your own ideas. And I was always there to create a great chemistry to great people. And now, after nearly 60 years, we have the best chemistry maybe in the world. I don’t know. Because we are playing, we are enjoying, we’re not fighting. Our goal is make the fans happy and give them what they’re looking for. And that’s the situation.”
The situation doesn’t make the reunion impossible though. He added:
“I will say never, never, because I love my brother. That’s the important point. But when you have different philosophies, you can’t connect them very easily. So there must be a different time… I’m always open.”
Michael’s Thoughts On Reuniting
Michael has consistently stated in different interviews that he has no plans to reunite with his older brother. In a 2021 interview with Metal Journal, he said that he loved his brother but didn’t want to go further than just being brothers:
“I love Rudolf as a brother, but social distance is needed, so I don’t get tricked into any further inconvenient situation. Rudolf is a bully, and I don’t connect with bullies. It creates turbulence, and it’s inconvenient… I don’t wanna be controlled by them. I have established myself in a way that I don’t wanna be tricked into more inconvenient situations. The moment I connect with Rudolf — you have to understand — it will carry on just the way it did when I was 15, and it will never stop. He’s a trickster.”
