In a new interview with Classic Rock, Lenny Kravitz recalled how Robert Plant once scolded him.
When asked about who gave him the best advice, Lenny revealed it was Plant when they toured together in 1993. They got along well. Kravitz said he is very particular about sound, and Plant understood that. He detailed one of their moments together:
“I was doing a soundcheck, and I guess I was in a bit of a mood because I didn’t like the way the stage sounded that night, and Robert ripped into me and tore me apart, basically saying: ‘The f*ck is wrong with you? You’re in the middle of this great success, you have this music, you’re having a great run and you should be enjoying every moment. Let go, relax!’ He was yelling at me like he was my older brother or my dad or something!”
Plant’s Reaction Scared Lenny
He shared what he felt after Plant’s words:
“It freaked me out and I was a little embarrassed. Here was one my heroes telling me what a b*tch I’m being. But it was the most beautiful thing, because he’s a real guy and he saw me in this wonderful place that he’s been, and he said: ‘You better f*cking wake up and enjoy this and have fun.’ And that turned me around. We’ve been great friends ever since.”
What Did Kravitz Feel About Touring With Plant?
Plant opened for Kravitz when he was touring Europe for his album ‘Are You Gonna Go My Way?’ In a previous interview with Variety, the rocker talked about what he thought when he learned that Robert would take the stage before him:
“That made no sense to me at all. I thought [the promoter] was f*cking with me. And then, every night having to go on after ‘Whole Lotta Love’ was just the most ridiculous thing ever.”
Kravitz’s latest album, ‘Blue Electric Light’ arrived on May 24. The singer will start a summer tour across Europe on June 23 at Sporthalle in Hamburg, Germany. He’ll also perform new songs for U.S. fans during the ‘Blue Electric Light’ Las Vegas residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM on October 18-19, 23, 25, and 26.
