The cast for Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming thriller After The Hunt just keeps getting better and better. Since last month’s news that Andrew Garfield has signed on to star alongside Julia Roberts in the Challengers filmmaker’s latest project, The Bear star Ayo Edebiri has already slipped into the movie’s ensemble. And now, as reported by Deadline, Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name collaborator and Academy Award nominee Michael Stuhlbarg has become the latest acting heavyweight to join the film.
Penned by first-time screenwriter Nora Garrett, Guadagnino’s “intense dramatic thriller” is set to centre around Julia Roberts’ character, a college professor who finds both her professional and private life coming undone when one of her star pupils levels a serious accusation against one of her colleagues. And in classic Guadagnino style, there’s more to the story yet, as the incident at the heart of the film also threatens to dredge up a long-buried secret from Roberts’ professor’s past. Let’s be honest — it was never going to be a rom-com, was it?
The who’s-playing-who of it all is very much unknown still at this point, though age-wise Edebiri as the star pupil and Garfield/Stuhlbarg as Roberts’ embattled colleague doesn’t feel like too much of a stretch to imagine. But what we do know is that After The Hunt is an Amazon MGM Studios production, meaning a Prime Video drop will follow any theatrical release window, and that said release window is still mooted for sometime 2025. Plenty of time then to revisit Call Me By Your Name and appreciate Stuhlbarg’s Sami being cinema’s ultimate dad.
