In a new interview with All Day Vinyl, former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum chatted about his former band.
When asked if he saw the reunited version of the band with Slash and Duff McKagan, he admitted to having refused Axl Rose and Slash’s offer. He said:
“No, I haven’t got the invite. They [said], ‘Hey, come watch the band,’ and I’m like, ‘I don’t think so.’ They invited me to come play and I declined. I didn’t think it made sense to go play two songs. I play music, I play with musicians. It’s like they want me to play with them.”
The drummer then explained how he seems himself and also clarified that he wasn’t fed up or upset with the band:
“That’s cool, whatever they’re doing is cool. I’m still living this vagabond dream of like a journeyman. I kind of like where I’m at as far as taking twists and turns.”
Sorum Doesn’t Mind He Isn’t Invited
Sorum was a member of Guns N’ Roses from 1990 to 1997, and contributed to three albums— ‘Use Your Illusion I,’ ‘Use Your Illusion II,’ and ‘The Spaghetti Incident.’ Both Slash and McKagan left the band around the same time Sorum did. However, they made a comeback in 2016.
Though he appeared to be upset that GNR didn’t get an invite to be in the band’s recent show, he says he’s shifted his attitude. During another chat, Sorum mentioned he’s taking a more positive approach to not being asked to rejoin the band:
“In the beginning, it was a little weird. I was, like, ‘I didn’t even get a call.’ But now I look at it different. I look at it like… I’m not supposed to be there. I got a child. I got a beautiful wife. The old me, the old Matt, the old guy, if I got up there, I don’t know what would happen to me.”
