One of Ian Gillan’s favorite Deep Purple songs annoys his bandmate, Ian Paice.
In a recent interview with Classic Rock, the Deep Purple frontman named his favorite songs of his band. The rocker named different songs from various albums, but picked one he loved just to ‘annoy’ his bandmate. His pick was ‘Razzle Dazzle’ from the 20013 album, ‘Bananas’:
“I’m picking this one just to annoy Ian Paice, who doesn’t like it. Me, I think it’s brilliant. But Ian comes from an entirely different perspective – sitting behind the drums.”
Gillan’s All-Time Favorite Song
During the same interview, the singer also shared his all-time favorite track. It’s a track from the band’s most popular album, ‘In Rock’:
“‘Into The Fire’ has always been one of my all-time favourites that we did. I still love singing that one right to the present day. It’s a slice of pure, raucous, uninhibited rock’n’roll – albeit mid-tempo rock’n’roll.”
One Album Gillan Couldn’t Stand
Among all 22 albums, there was one album he did not mention a song from. It stands out since it’s the album Gillan cannot stand to hear.
In another interview back in December 2022, the rocker revealed he didn’t even listen to the band’s first album without his contributions, ‘Burn.’ He explained:
“I couldn’t bring myself to listen to the next album in a way. It was something I had been a part of, and there was somebody else singing. I didn’t even want to listen to it. It was very personal. The whole band was personal. We had been through a lot together.”
Deep Purple is to release a new album soon. Titled ‘=1,’ the band’s 23rd studio album will drop on July 19 via earMUSIC.
