In a new interview with Metal Hammer, Lzzy Hale said she didn’t think there would be such a response when she first talked about being bisexual.
The Halestorm frontwoman reflected on how everyone learned about her sexual orientation:
“On Twitter, I was asked a question and [I responded] ‘Well, being bi…’ and then everybody kind of freaked out. At that point in time, my bandmates and my parents and everybody kind of knew, so I’m in my own bubble, and didn’t realise that the majority of people out there, 95% have no idea. I was like, ‘Oh, well, okay, I guess I’ll have to be prepared to answer for that now.’”
Lzzy talked about the joy she received from being open about these kinds of issues:
“I do keep some things for myself, that’s the healthy way to do things, but I don’t mind being open about the things that I like being open about. And this specifically, has brought me joy by talking about it. I get these amazing hugs from young people that come to our shows and they’re trying to come out to their parents or they’re afraid to. And I’m in a place in my life now where I can talk openly about all of these things and give something back.”
Hale’s Instagram Post About Her Sexuality
In June 2022, Hale shared on her social media during Pride Month that she’s ‘unapologetically bisexual,’ writing in her post:
“I’m unapologetically bisexual. Navigating within my spectrum of this tremendous rainbow we are all a part of. What I hope to pass on to you, whether you are in a state of pride or still riding the high seas, is that by being your true self, embracing what makes you stand out to others, and owning your weird, these things ultimately become your superpowers.”
The rocker added:
“Your true self is precious; no one can take it from you unless you let them. Wield it like a secret weapon. As far as I know, we only get one time around this ride. So live and breathe every single part of you; the good, the bad, the colorful, and the queer. Rock on motherf*ckers! I celebrate you!”
Elsewhere in the post, Lzzy said she kept her bisexuality hidden for a long time due to her semi-Christian upbringing. Later, the vocalist revealed that she hadn’t planned to come out that way and compared her incident to Rob Halford’s.
