In a new interview with Jaimunji, Cradle Of Filth singer Dani Filth talked about making new music and their collaboration with Ed Sheeran.
The frontman explained why the band still hasn’t released the song although they have been promoting it for a long time. He said there was a reason behind it but it also showed that they were not using Sheeran’s fame to promote their own record:
“There’s a reasoning behind that but it’s not going to delay the inevitable. It’s a great song anyway and it just keeps people guessing at a little bit longer, but it also shows that we’re not using it as a vehicle for the record which I was very keen to stress that yeah he’s one of the biggest artists in the world and yes we’ve done a thing with him, yes everybody’s very curious about it.”
The rocker also added that he loved to be extreme:
“But at the same time, I don’t want it to overshadow what we’re doing because it’s not a novelty song, although the ideology behind it is very novelty, and I love the just position of the marriage of extremes, like who the hell would do this? Well, us, for a start. So I’m happy with that.”
The Collaboration Was Thought To Be Irony
The collaboration between the two artists was unexpected, considering they are on opposite ends of the musical spectrum.
During the summer of 2021, Sheeran asked Filth to come over and make some music at his place. As they got into it, Filth saw Sheeran was really into making music together, so they started working on a track. But Sheeran got sidetracked after his new baby was born, so things got delayed.
Later, Filth explained that although they have different musical styles, their collaboration isn’t ironic at all. Filth said their different musical tastes make their collaboration more exciting and fun and that it was ‘the marriage of the extremes.’
Sheeran And Filth Get Along Well
Filth first mentioned teaming up with Sheeran during an interview on Kerrang! Radio’s ‘Breakfast Show’ at the 2021 Bloodstock Open Air festival in the U.K. While talking about their potential collaboration, he let slip that Sheeran was actually a big fan of his band. He said:
“I’ve actually been e-mailing with [Ed]… He actually touched base with me. I’ve been invited up to his place. Well, he said he could come down to mine, but I pointed out to him that I don’t own my own bar or village, and it’d be better if I went there. He said he’d do anything. Quite literally. He said he’s a massive fan. He seems like a genuinely very nice guy actually.”
Not just that, Filth and Sheeran have become close friends over two years. Their friendship was strengthened by Sheeran’s love for both Cradle Of Filth and Slipknot.
