Billie Joe Armstrong wants to perform a show with Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx.
In one of their recent concerts, Van Halen’s Michael Anthony joined Billie’s cover band The Coverups on stage to play ‘Ain’t Talkin’ ’bout Love.’ Armstrong shared a clip from their performance together and wrote in the caption:
“What a night!!! Getting to play with a hero! Michael Anthony!!! ‘Aint’t Talkin’ ’bout Love’!!!!”
Nikki Reacted To Billie’s Post
Sixx responded to his post with the comment:
“Yeah.”
Billie invited the bassist to join them on stage in his reply:
“We’re next buddy!”
Sixx Likes Green Day’s Music
Nikki is actually an admirer of Green Day for years. Previously, during a Q&A session with his fans on X, the musician answered a question about if he liked Green Day. His response was as follows:
“Who doesn’t? Great songs.”
The link between Mötley Crüe and Green Day goes deeper than that. In January of this year, Armstrong appeared on The Chris Moyles Show and revealed that Mötley Crüe inspired their third album, ‘Dookie,’ explaining:
“That sort of thing doesn’t go unnoticed. I remember when we did Dookie, I wanted each track to go really quickly right into the next. I didn’t want to have much room in between. That kind of came from Mötley Crüe’s first album, ‘Too Fast For Love,’ where each song just is like [gestures] boom, boom, boom. There’s never a dull moment.”
Besides Armstrong, The Coverups also includes his Green Day bandmate, Mike Dirnt, Green Day’s touring guitarist Jason White, the band’s audio engineer Chris Dugan, guitar and bass tech/tour manager Bill Schneider, and Greg Schneider. In one of their shows from last year at the Retro Junkie in Walnut Creek, California, they covered Mötley Crüe’s ‘Live Wire’ on stage.
