You might have heard that The Black Keys have been in a feud with The White Stripes’ Jack Black for a few reasons.
In a new interview with VladTV, the band sat down and discussed the matter.
Dan Auerbach said he was invited to a recording session at the studio at White’s house, but then had to return because White didn’t want him at his house. However, this didn’t upset him. Instead, he basically didn’t ‘give a sh*t’ about it:
“Bob called me and told me to turn around. He said the owner of the studio didn’t want me there. It was super awkward and it was never really resolved but I also didn’t really give a sh*t to be honest. It was somebody I’d never met, we’d got a lot of comparisons. It was just sort of unfortunate and not what I would have chosen but it’s just what it was and I kind of just moved on pretty quickly.”
How Are They Now?
In the same interview, the drummer Patrick Carney shared his thoughts on the matter too. He explained if they still have bad blood or not:
“I am buddies with Jack, that’s water under the bridge. We had our little moment where it got heated and we ended up having this two hour phone call where I basically spoke my peace and he spoke his peace. We understood we were on the same page as far as our love for how I got Dan’s back and he has people’s back and it’s all good. Since then I’ve been to Jack’s house, I’ve watched baseball games with him. He’s a musician and he’s eccentric and he’s competitive. It’s all good.”
Why The Feud?
It all started when White’s emails about Auerbach were leaked during his custody battle with his ex, Karen Elson. When those emails came out where White called Auerbach an ‘a**hole’, The Black Keys took the high road. Drummer Patrick Carney told Rolling Stone that even though it was messed up for Jack to think of Auerbach like that, it was just a private conversation that got out.
After a year of no communication between the two parties, in 2015 Carney said there was a clash with White. He was playing a Neil Young tribute gig at the Bowery Ballroom when the drama went down.
Carney then shared multiple tweets about White. Even though things seemed heated between the two, Carney ended up deleting most of his tweets about White before sharing one last tweet about him:
“From one musician to another, you have my respect, Patrick Carney.”
