Imagine The Beatles’ lineup as Paul McCartney on lead guitar. It sure makes one wonder how the band would sound.
In the new episode of ‘Paul McCartney: A Life in Lyrics,’ the bassist Beetle talked about the gig that ended his guitar career. The bassist explained what he found ‘so embarrassing’ about playing the guitar and how the gig ended:
“We had this gig and it was like, the first thing I ever played, and I was lead guitar player. John [Lennon] was rhythm, and I had a solo and I totally froze. [I] could not move my fingers… It was like, just so embarrassing. My lead guitar playing career melted at that moment and I said, ‘Well, I’m not doing this again. I’m not cut out for this. I’m no good.”
Have McCartney Ever Played Guitar Again?
If you are wondering how the band would sound like with McCartney on lead guitar, there are a few songs where he played the guitar. The bassist later penned ‘Blackbird,’ and even delved into the song’s meaning and inspiration in a recent episode of his podcast.
Beyoncé recently covered ‘Blackbird’ on her latest album ‘Cowboy Carter,’ and McCartney had some words about her version of the song. He said:
“I think she does a magnificent version of it, and it reinforces the civil rights message that inspired me to write the song in the first place.”
In addition to ‘Blackbird,’ he played guitar in ‘Back in the U.S.S.R.,’ ‘Helter Skelter‘ and ‘Taxman.’
