Premiering a year ago this week, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters was an immediate hit for Apple TV, and rightfully so. As the first live-action Godzilla series to hit the small screen here in North America, anticipations were at an all-time high to see how everyone’s favorite Titan would fare on television, and the results did not disappoint. Now, nearly 365 days following Monarch’s debut, Apple TV has provided fans with a huge update on Season 2.
Posting on X this morning, Apple TV revealed that production on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 has officially begun. The announcement was accompanied by a photo (seen below) that shows a Monarch base in shambles, with a couple of jeeps nearby sporting the Apex Cybernetics logo. “Greetings from Skull Island,” the caption reads. “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2 is in production.”

Monarch: Legacy of Monsters adds a familiar face.
Starring Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, and Mari Yamamoto, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters takes place following the events depicted in Godzilla (2014), while at the same time going back to 1952 to trace the origins of the titular organization, and its discovery of Titans such as the Toho creation. Father and son duo Wyatt and Kurt Russell also received top billing in the series, portraying the younger and older versions of Lee Shaw. Despite his harrowing sacrifice at the end of the first season, however, both stars are expected to return in Season 2, though how that will work is anyone’s guess at this point.
What Can We Expect in ‘Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ Season 2?
One of the big teases at the end of Season 1 of Monarch was the reveal of Kong, and ever since then, fans have been wondering how much of a role he’ll play in Season 2. Thankfully, it appears as if showrunner Chris Black won’t be skimping on the beloved beast, as earlier this year he promised to deliver on everyone’s expectations that Kong would have a more prominent place in the sophomore outing.
“We want to continue to tell the story of the Randa family and Cate and Kentaro and their father, Hiroshi, and now they’re grandmother, Keiko, but there also is a hunger for more spectacle, for more monsters. You know, how do we make it bigger and better? We reveal Kong at the end of the first season so there’s going to be an expectation that you’re going to see more of Kong that we want to deliver on.”
Following the appearances of Mother Longlegs, Mantleclaw, and Ion Dragon, we can also expect more Titans to show up in Monarch Season 2, though that’s a heavily guarded secret at this point. We’re not entirely sure if there will be treasured favorites like Mothra and King Ghidorah, or if entirely new creations will be birthed specifically for the series. Either way, with production now officially underway, fans can get hyped about the return of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, which is expected to debut late in 2025.
