The Edge updated fans on Larry Mullen Jr.’s health following the drummer’s surgery, which caused him to miss U2’s Las Vegas residency earlier this year in a recent interview with Rolling Stone.
The guitarist revealed that the band has already had a session with Mullen and said they were “having a great time.”
“So, yeah, obviously we don’t want to be over-doing it, but yes, it’s going great and he’s in great form,” he added. “It’s lovely to spend time with him in the studio in a creative environment.”
Mullen, who is recovering from injuries on his elbows, knees, and neck, was able to attend U2’s last show at the MGM Sphere as an audience. The Edge previously commented that the drummer likely enjoyed the show and is keen to return to the stage.
U2 is now working on a new album, which they started writing for during the pandemic, according to the guitarist.
They’re still in the early stages, as he told Rolling Stone, “So, we’re starting to go through some of those, and we’ve got an awful lot of material to wade through to see what it is,” he explained. “And I guess we’re at that great honeymoon period of a lot of experimentation, and looking at all kinds of possible themes musically.”
The band is also getting ready to release a shadow album called ‘How to Re-Assemble an Atomic Bomb’ on November 29 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘How to Dismantle An Atomic Bomb.’
