Guy Ritchie is now assembling the cast for his next movie, and it could be the strongest group of actors yet. Across his career, Ritchie has worked with the likes of Jason Statham, Stephen Graham, Brad Pitt, Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Jake Gyllenhaal, Colin Farrell, Matthew McConaughey, Hugh Grant, Henry Cavill, and TheShockNews goes on. So, how does he keep managing to assemble greater and greater casts for his movies?
Per Variety, Guy Ritchie is teaming up with Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch, Gone Girl actress Rosamund Pike, and an actor who needs no introduction, Anthony Hopkins, for his next film, Wife & Dog, which will continue Ritchie’s trend of examining and dissecting the British aristocracy much like he did with The Gentlemen. In his early career, the director was obsessed with low-level cockney gangsters in London. However, recent years have seen Ritchie turn his attention to the wealthy elite. While the film The Gentlemen was a classic Ritchie gangster film in disguise, the Netflix series of the same name featured the poshest and richest characters in a Guy Ritchie film to date.
Plot details are being kept a secret, but Wife & Dog continues Ritchie’s obsession with British aristocrats after the immense success of Netflix’s The Gentlemen series. The film is being written by Guy Ritchie, and produced by Black Bear Pictures. It is unclear who will distribute the new flick. Ritchie’s last film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, was released by Lionsgate, who staggered the film’s release across the globe through select theaters and streaming platforms. International fans hope that Wife & Dog gets a worldwide theatrical release.
The Gentlemen Season 2 Is Coming
The Gentlemen series was an aristocratic hit for Netflix. The show dominated the streamer’s Top 10 chart upon its release in March, as fans were obsessed with the director’s episodic crime story. Set in the same world as the similarly named movie, The Gentleman followed the inheritance battle within the Horniman family, which included the secret underground drug empire grown under their estate. Given the show’s popularity, a second season was inevitable. Season 2 was greenlit by Netflix this August. Theo James and Kaya Scodelario are confirmed to return, as is Guy Ritchie to direct and co-write with Matthew Read. Anne Mensah, Netflix’s UK VP of Content, said in a statement following the renewal:
“We are thrilled the series will be returning to Netflix for a second season, and cannot wait to see what happens when the worlds of old money and drug money collide once more.”

The Gentlemen Season 2 and Wife & Dog might be some years away, but Ritchie has more than enough to keep fans entertained in the meantime. The director is currently in post-production on his new movie, In the Grey, which is currently slated to release in 2025. The film reunites Ritchie with Henry Cavill and Jake Gyllenhaal. The official synopsis reads:
“[In the Grey] revolves around two extraction specialists who have to designate a route of escape for a senior female negotiator.”
