Colin Farrell is nowhere near done playing Oz Cobb in Matt Reeves’ Batman universe. After briefly appearing in The Batman, Cobb became the star of his own spin-off show, aptly titled The Penguin, which recently concluded on HBO. The series finale brought things to a shocking end, and established Cobb as the comic book villain fans know and love (minus his quirkier attributes). Fans are now desperately awaiting The Batman: Part II, which is rumored to take place shortly after The Penguin, but even that won’t be the end for Oz Cobb.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Farrell revealed how long fans can expect to see Oz Cobb on their screens for, and it’s far longer than expected. Some were assuming that The Penguin would establish Oz as the main villain for The Batman: Part II, but that might not be the case. “I signed up for three Batman films, but I didn’t know if I’d be in the second film,” Farrell said. We already knew that Oz would appear in Part II, although it hasn’t been revealed if he’s the main villain, or a secondary antagonist. Colin Farrell also revealed how much screen time Cobb will get in the eagerly-anticipated sequel. The actor said:
“There is a degree of almost delusion psychopathy present in the last scene. So how is that taken up in the second film?
I was told I have five or six scenes.
I don’t have any hopes or any expectations. I’m really an open book… I do believe I know him better than anyone now.”
Whatever role Cobb plays in The Batman: Part II, expect the character to be far different from the version seen in the original movie. “What I’m most excited-slash-nervous about in the second film is not what Oz does,” Farrell continued. Over the eight episodes, Cobb transforms from a mid-level crime boss under Falcone’s payroll, to the new kingpin of Gotham City’s criminal underworld, having bested both the Falcones and the Maronis. He said:
“How is his personality? It was forming and changing in the limited series, and, by the end of the eight episodes, it’s concretized into something else.”
Will The Penguin Get a Second Season?
Throughout the press tour for The Penguin, Colin Farrell has continuously labeled the show as a “Limited Series,” meaning there will only be one season. Fans also assumed that the show would only get one season after Farrell expressed his frustration at wearing the extensive prosthetics for an entire season’s worth of television. However, the “Limited Series” billing means very little now, after Shogun backtracked on its categorization and announced that two more seasons are in the works.

The series is currently expected to dominate during next year’s awards season. Season 2 of The Penguin hasn’t officially been greenlit by HBO, yet. Regardless, it will still be some time before we see Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb on screen, because The Batman: Part IIis currently slated for release on October 2, 2026.
