Lena Dunham is working on the script for a feature about FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried.
The Girls creator is on board to write a film adapting author Michael Lewis’ best-selling 2023 book Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon. Apple Studios and A24 are producing and developing the movie that is in early development.
Bankman-Fried founded FTX in 2019, and the cryptocurrency exchange enjoyed a rise to prominence that included the company’s commercial running during the 2022 Super Bowl. FTX boasted endorsements from such celebrities as Tom Brady, Stephen Curry and Larry David.
In March, the disgraced crypto entrepreneur was sentenced to 25 years in prison and forced to forfeit over $11 billion following his conviction on charges of fraud, conspiracy and money laundering. Bankman-Fried is appealing the conviction and sentence.
Dunham recently wrapped production on the Netflix romantic-comedy series Too Much, which she wrote and directed. She co-stars in the show alongside Megan Stalter, Will Sharpe, Richard E. Grant, Janicza Bravo, Michael Zegan and Emily Ratajkowski.
Previously, Dunham wrote and directed the 2022 films Sharp Stick and Catherine Called Birdy. Her HBO comedy series Girls, in which she also starred, signed off in 2017 after six seasons.
Lewis has seen a number of his nonfiction books become feature films. The Blind Side (2009), Moneyball (2011) and The Big Short (2015) were all based on his works.
Other movies in the works from Apple and A24 include Spike Lee’s High and Low with Denzel Washington and the Jennifer Lawrence-led mystery The Wives.
Dunham is represented by CAA, ID PR and Hansen Jacobson.
Variety first reported on Dunham adapting Lewis’ book.
