Get ready for more Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
“Five Nights at Freddy’s,” a horror-thriller set a haunted Chuck E. Cheese-esque establishment, is getting a sequel in the fall of 2025. Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions, which backed the first film, confirmed the news at CinemaCon, the annual convention for movie theater owners that’s currently taking place in Las Vegas. But they didn’t share an exact release date, plot details or returning cast members for the follow-up.

Adapted from the popular video game, last October’s “Five Nights at Freddy’s” made a killing at the box office with $297 million globally and became Blumhouse’s highest-grossing film of all time. Those ticket sales were especially impressive because the low-budget film was saddled with terrible reviews and it landed simultaneously on Peacock, the streaming service owned by NBCUniversal. For most movies, hybrid releases tend to cut into ticket sales. But it didn’t seem to hurt “Five Nights,” which benefitted from its PG-13 rating and prime Halloween release date.
“It’s so fun when it works,” Jason at the time. A movie version of “Five Nights at Freddy’s” had been in the works since 2015, but Blum’s company helped to finally cracked the code. “Thank you all so much for being patient with us on ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s.’ We wanted to get it just right for the fans. That’s all we were focused on.”
Josh Hutcherson, who stars in the original as a nighttime security guard at Freddys Fazbear’s Pizza, where the animatronic mascots are prone to murder, has previously expressed his desire for a sequel.
“We hoped it would connect with audiences. But I don’t think that anybody, even on our side of things, expected it to really connect the way that it did,” he told Variety earlier this year. “I’m dying to get back on set. Emma Tammi, our director, was fantastic, and it was such a fun world to play in. I’m excited to see what they are doing next.”
