Nina Dobrev and Shaun White are all smiles as they step out for the first time on the red carpet as fiancés.
Dobrev, 35, and White, 38, posed together on Wednesday, November 6, at the fourth annual Earthshot Prize Awards held at Green Point Shared Fields in Cape Town, South Africa. The event was led by Earthshots’ founder and president, Prince William.
Dobrev wowed in a red strapless floor-length gown by Carly Cushnie, pairing the look with sparkly hoop earrings and her five-carat diamond engagement ring from Lorraine Schwartz Jewelry. (Lorel Diamonds jeweler Laura Taylor shared with Us Weekly that she estimated the ring, which features an elongated oval-cut diamond set on a yellow gold band, to be worth about $220,000 to $270,000.)
She styled her long tresses down, with her hair tucked behind her ears. White, for his part, rocked a black tuxedo as he stood beside Dobrev.
The pair’s appearance came one week after Dobrev announced that she and White were engaged.
“RIP boyfriend, hello fiancé 💍♾️,” Dobrev captioned Instagram photos of the couple in front of a floral arch. White uploaded his own post at the time, writing, “She said YES 💍♾️.”
Dobrev was “totally surprised” by the proposal, which took place in New York City, a source told Us. “They’re both wildly happy,” the insider added.
After the engagement, White revealed to Vogue that he decided to pop the question at the end of October after his first two proposal plans didn’t come to fruition. After Dobrev told White that she wasn’t feeling well a few days before the proposal, the Olympic gold medalist decided to enlist his publicist for help.
White told the outlet that he sent Dobrev a fake invitation for a CFDA Awards and Vogue dinner with Anna Wintour at the Golden Swan. She accepted the invitation, later telling Vogue that White “made the invite look so legitimate.”
When Dobrev arrived at the fictitious event, White and a photographer were standing in front of the arch. “I went into shock. I just froze and stared at him,” Dobrev said, adding that she began to say, “No, no, no!”
White told the outlet that he knew Dobrev was “nervous” because she began making jokes. “She’s like, ‘So, wait, Anna’s not here?’” White said.
Ahead of the engagement, Us reported that White and Dobrev — who took their relationship public in 2020 — were thinking about taking the next steps with their romance. “They’ve talked about getting married, having kids, the whole nine yards,” an insider exclusively shared in 2023.
