Carlacia Grant is ready for her close-up.
The actress, who plays Cleo Anderson on Outer Banks, is gearing up for season four’s second half drop on Nov. 7. That means: lots of events and red carpets to prep for.
Grant relies on her squad, makeup artist Sean Harris and hairstylist Chloe Target and an arsenal of products, many of which are from Black-founded-and-owned brands, to help her feel her best.
“I’m very intentional about being inclusive,” Grant says, explaining that supporting them is a no-brainer. “We got the sauce. That’s just it. With how much we influence culture, it’s important to.”
Grant loves that Black-owned brands are more accessible now. It also helps that being inclusive is important to her beauty pros, too.
“They are amazing at keeping their ears to the street. They’re the first to be like, ‘Oh, I got this new Black-owned product that I’ve been trying it out. You’ll love it.”
While Grant “has all the products and all the things,” she’s definitely believes in beauty “from the inside out.”
“I’m not a minimal beauty person, but I definitely think that beauty is something that comes from within,” she says. She shares that with her character.
So whether she’s headed to work or press, feeling confident comes from getting in the right head-space.
“When I wake up, and I try to not get into the melee of life. I play relaxing Chinese flutes for 10 minutes and I start from a place of gratefulness, then I do my manifestations. Then I have my green juice, which is my equivalent of the espresso shot, and then I go forward with the day.”
Wide Tooth Comb
“My hair can get very tangled. Especially when it’s natural and out, it just finds ways to tangle itself in a million different ways. I just love this comb because I feel like it separates the curls effortlessly, and I don’t have as much breakage as I do with other combs.”

Scalp Oil
“Hair is a big thing for me. It’s very important to me to maintain it through all the jobs that I have to do and under the protective styles I wear. My hairstylist Chloe, we’re both Haitian, and growing up we [learned] you have to keep your scalp very moisturized. So once a week or every other week we’ll put castor oil on my scalp — it’s the holy grail of oils — and a heated cap.”

Sunscreen
“This is absolutely one of my favorite things. I did not wear sunscreen until I found it. Everything else was literally white when I put it on my skin, and didn’t blend in. But this just rubs in, it gives you a glow, and it’s so moisturizing, you don’t have to put lotion on under it.”

Lip Balm
“I discovered this with Sean [Grant’s makeup artist]. He was creating a look and was like, ‘Let’s use this, it’s Black-owned, baby!’ We usually put it on before we go in with a lip liner. It definitely keeps my lips moisturized under makeup.”

Lip Plumper
“I remember going to the beauty supply store to get gloss. It’s a staple. Now, I’m definitely a dark lip liner and lip gloss girl. I’m obsessed with this shade because it’s a good brown, that isn’t sticky and lasts a long time.”

Translucent Powder
“When Sean [Grant’s makeup artist] comes to do a look, it’s like I’m in class. He told me about Danessa Myricks, and we have been using her products on me, especially under my eyes. This is the perfect hue where when the lights flash on your snatched eye look, it’s not like, ‘oh she has way too much under-eye powder on.’ “

Hair Oil
“I love, love, love this hair oil. When I have my hair out, it’s really great to put on the ends to finish a style. It’s very light, but also moisturizing, and the scent is so good.”

Eyeshadow Palette
“This is my favorite of Pat McGrath’s palettes, I use it all the time. I love the colors and the pigment is amazing. I use the top row to create a cut crease, then go in with the glowy shadow on the bottom row for a really good eye look. And, depending on how much I use, I can make a daytime look or a nighttime look — it’s so versatile.”
