When Netflix announced it had renewed its hit rom-com series Nobody Wants This for a second season, fans instantly rejoiced knowing they’d more of Joanne and Noah’s love story.
The show, which premiered in September 2024, debuted with a 10 episode order, tracking the unlikely romance between sex podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell) and “hot” rabbi Noah (Adam Brody). It received overwhelmingly positive reviews upon its release, and has remained in Netflix’s global top 10 since.
“Creating Nobody Wants This will forever be a career highlight for me,” show creator Erin Foster told Netflix in a story published October 10. “The incredible cast, crew, producers, and executives all made this into the show it is today, and to experience viewers’ reactions to this series now that it’s out in the world has been more than anything I could have dreamed.”
Season 1 ended with Noah appearing to give up his opportunity to be head rabbi at his synagogue in order to be with Joanne, who said she was not ready to convert to Judaism.
“What should he do? What should she do? What version of sacrifice is worth it? What constitutes growth, or what constitutes dimming yourself to be with someone else? It’s a sacrifice,” Brody explained to Netflix. “But ideally, you grow together and you’re better for it — you don’t have to [lop] off a limb.”
The series is sure to delve into those questions and more. For now, keep scrolling for everything we know about season 2 of Nobody Wants This.
What Is the Status of ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2?
Not only has Nobody Wants This been renewed, but filming is set to begin in late January 2025 and wrap by April. While it’s still too early to start thinking about release dates, if all goes well, season 2 could be on track to premiere late next year.
In a November 1 appearance on Sirius XM’s Jeff Lewis Live radio show, Foster said things were moving along as scheduled.
“Have scripts been written? No,” she said. “But we just did script assignments yesterday, so deciding who’s going to write what, and we have the stories for all the episodes, and they’re in the process of being approved by Netflix.”
Who Is Returning to the Cast?
Netflix hasn’t released cast info just yet, but there has been some news about the crew. Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, both Girls alumni, will join as co-showrunners, and Nora Silver (Single Drunk Female) will be an executive producer.
“I am excited beyond belief to be a part of Season 2 of Nobody Wants This, created by the hilarious Erin Foster,” Kaplan told Netflix. “It is such a unique and beautiful show, and I am already having the best time working on it.”
I think it’s safe to say Bell and Brody are likely to return
What Do We Know About the Plot of ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2?
Expect season 2 to begin more or less where the first one ended.
“I think we’ll pick up mostly more or less where we left off,” Foster told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published October 14. “Not the same night, but the same moment of, ‘So, what now? How do we do this?’”
Foster added that Netflix urged her not to move the story along too quickly in season 1, avoiding “manufactured time jumps” that wouldn’t let the audience “experience the minutiae of how a relationship unfolds.”
Does ‘Nobody Wants This’ Have a Future Beyond Season 2?
With filming not even started yet on season 2, Foster already has ideas for a third installment. In fact, she told THR that she wants to keep going “as long as possible.”
“It’s funny because we’ve been in the writers room, and so we’re working on storylines, and we keep coming up with storylines and being like, ‘That’s for season 3. That’s for season 3,’” she said. “And we’re like, ‘Should we just make a board and pitch out season 3 to them at the same time?’ Because, we have ideas.”
