More The Batman spin-off shows are coming, and Matt Reeves has just teased audiences with what to expect from the new projects. The Penguin is gearing up for its grand finale this Sunday night, as Oz Cobb’s battle with Sofia Falcone will come to a climactic head. Reeves, who directed The Batman and executive produced The Penguin, has already announced his desire to make more shows set in Gotham City, and is now promising they will come in a similar form as The Penguin.
Speaking to acclaimed actor Andy Serkis for Interview Magazine, Matt Reeves revealed that future The Batman spin-offs will be character focused like The Penguin. “I think the idea of being able to put a lens on these characters is a really exciting idea,” the director said. Reeves isn’t just interested in telling another character’s story. For him, it’s about how each hero, villain, and side character fits into the bigger picture of a failing Gotham City. Reeves continued:
“It’s about cities and their dysfunction and the world and its dysfunction, which is what Batman stories are all about.
They’re all about Gotham being a place that should be better.
And you can have the experience of this almost novelistic epic crime saga, but you also just get these separate experiences.”
Matt Reeves said that HBO are firmly behind his vision for The Batman universe. No major details about the new spin-offs have been announced yet. Fans do know that the once canceled Arkham Asylum spin-off is now back in development with Warner Bros. and HBO. It is most likely that the new spin-off will be announced after The Batman Part II, and will hone in on another side-character, like The Batman did with Colin Farrell’s Oz Cobb. Whatever character appears in the new show, Reeves promises that it won’t be yet another well-worn origin story. The director explained:
“We have been talking about doing other shows. I wanted to make sure that we didn’t do the origin tale, which so many of the other series have done.”
DC Fans Want a Sofia Falcone Spin-Off Series
While The Penguin explores Oz Cobb’s rise to earn his moniker as a major player in Gotham’s underground crime syndicates, the character has had his own series stolen by the show’s primary antagonist (if she can be called that). Cristin Milioti delivers a stand-out performance as Sofia “The Hangman” Falcone, embodying her transformative villain with the perfect degree of sympathy and empathy so that audiences actively root for her.

Reeves recently revealed that he’s in talks with WBD and HBO to bring more iconic villains to the small screen.
The Penguin hasn’t even finished its run on HBO and fans are already calling for Sofia Falcone to receive her own spin-off series. Of course, we will have to wait until the season finale airs on Sunday 10, November to see if Sofia survives the events of the series, or if she dies at the hands of her former driver, Oz Cobb. It is also unclear if Colin Farrell will return for a second season of The Penguin. However, depending on where the story goes at the end of the season and in The Batman: Part II, Cobb may not need another season of TV.
Created by Lauren LeFranc, The Penguin is a crime-drama spin-off television series of 2022’s film The Batman. Set shortly after the events of The Batman, Oz Cobb, A.K.A. the Penguin, begins his rise in the underworld of Gotham City as he contends with the daughter of his late boss, Carmine Falcone, for control of the crime family’s empire.
