Venom: The Last Dance is currently making waves at the box office, but a fourth film in the movie franchise has not been confirmed yet. As of right now, the film is living up to its title, serving as the final appearance for Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock aka Venom. However, it seems that Sony is not done with the anti-hear just yet, as a new Marvel rumor suggests that Agent Venom is the next film in the franchise.
According to Daniel Richtman, Sony is developing an Agent Venom film in the wake of the final installment of the Venom trilogy starring Tom Hardy. Of course, this is only a rumor and should be stressed as such. However, considering the studio is always looking to make more Spider-Man-related films, continuing to cash in on their most successful Marvel franchise makes a lot of sense. Agent Venom would be a natural continuation of the storyline too, as he is the next successor to the Venom mantle after Eddie Brock.
For those unfamiliar, Agent Venom in the source material was Flash Thompson, Peter Parker’s former bully, fused with the Venom symbiote. His appearance is notoriously modeled after a tactical suit, and much sleeker compared to the hulk-like presence of the Eddie Brock version. Of course, Hardy could still return as his character, but introducing a new character as the anti-hero could be a breath of fresh air the franchise needs. Besides, it may be the best idea considering Sony is still mulling over some question Spider-Man spinoff ideas.
The Future of Sony Spider-Man Universe is Murky
With Kraven the Hunter heading to theaters later this year, Sony is still keen on continuing their Marvel movies vaguely related to Spider-Man. Even though Madame Web was a bomb in all respects, the Venom trilogy has shown that it is indeed possible to find a worthy niche within the pocket of the Marvel universe. Despite innumerable delays, Silver Sable is presumably still in development hell, as well as more films in the animated Spider-Verse franchise. On the TV side of things, a Silk-focused show was canceled earlier this year before the Nicolas Cage-led Spider Noir series began filming last month. The Sony-Marvel agreement is still going strong, too, as Spider-Man 4 with Tom Holland is officially in development to start filming next year.
