One of, if not the best Gerard Butler action franchise, the Fallen saga, has expanded beyond Butler himself and onto the small screen in the StudioCanal series Paris Has Fallen, which is now available to stream in the U.K. and will soon land on Hulu in the U.S. Directed by Oded Ruskin and Hans Herbots, and starring Tewfik Jallab (Blood Coast), Ritu Arya (The Umbrella Academy), and Sean Harris (Mission: Impossible – Fallout), Paris Has Fallen has now received its first reactions and reviews – and it sounds like the spin-off is a worthy follow-up to the action thriller series.
“Gerard Butler was the executive producer of Paris Has Fallen. No wonder it’s so so good,” declared X/Twitter user and action fan @Onahi_. @NiGhTVioLaToR adds, “Paris Has Fallen is a great series. #AmazonPrime,” while @akinomoakiin says, “If you need an interesting TV series for the weekend go and see PARIS HAS FALLEN. It’s a great one, still on it.”
The praise for Paris Has Fallen continues courtesy of @Vitamin__Dee, who says, “PARIS HAS FALLEN is another 8/10 series you can watch on Prime,” while @agostinhozinga recommends the show to anyone interested in action-packed conspiracy thrillers, saying, “i really enjoyed paris is burning, such a great fun and easy to watch terrorism and conspiracy based thriller, highly recommend it if your into shows like spooks etc.”
Ganesh Aaglave of Firstpost, meanwhile, did criticize Paris Has Fallen for not attempting anything new, but heaped praise on the action spin-off for its “entertaining and riveting” action sequences and intense atmosphere.
“One can easily say, the series has been packaged well with stylized action sequences but somewhere and somehow you don’t find anything new and out-of-the-box. However, you can’t deny that the creator has managed to keep it entertaining and riveting thanks to BGM, which plays a crucial role in raising the tension and intensity.”
Paris Has Fallen Makes the Case for Ritu Arya as the Next James Bond
X user @timi_RM could not get enough of Umbrella Academy star Ritu Arya in the lead of Paris Has Fallen, saying, “Paris Has Fallen (Yes, it’s related to that franchise) is actually a solid show. Two episodes in and I’m enjoying it immensely. Tbh I’m sure 40 percent of my enjoyment is Ritu Arya playing the lead character.” While Neil Armstrong of i News goes even further, and says the Polite Society star is “the next James Bond.”
“I’ve found the next James Bond – and she’s a British-Asian lesbian. Zara Taylor, a cool, sardonic MI6 agent played by Ritu Arya (last seen in The Umbrella Academy and Barbie), is the best thing about Paris Has Fallen, a silly but enjoyable action thriller clearly modelled on the 007 films.”
