Hole’s hit album ‘Celebrity Skin’ has broken a record. The record got platinum certified nearly 30 years after its release. The Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan celebrated this new milestone with an Instagram post.
“HOLE’S ‘CELEBRITY SKIN’ SINGLE IS OFFICIALLY RIAA PLATINUM CERTIFIED 26 YEARS AFTER ITS RELEASE. ‘Congrats to Hole for this wonderful milestone,’” the frontman wrote in a post.
Though it looked like a sincere post, the comments of the post were turned off.
‘Celebrity Skin’ remains as much a product of Hole as a whole as it is of Love individually. Hole embraced their role as a voice for a newer generation, capturing a blend of angst and edge. Corgan co-wrote five tracks of the album and played bass on two.
Corgan and Courtney Love were romantically involved before she met Kurt Cobain in the early 1990s. She eventually left Corgan for Cobain, but they put aside any past tensions to collaborate on ‘Celebrity Skin.’
Later, in 2006, Corgan and Love reconnected, and he moved into her Hollywood mansion. Their relationship continued for two years before ending. Corgan later described Love as an ‘abyss.’
Billy Corgan has moved on since his relationship with Courtney Love. He now has two children and is married to fashion designer Chloe Mendel.
