Within Temptation singer Sharon Den Adel recently shared that the band’s choice to express more political views in their music was intended to inspire conversation and explained that she has no regrets about this direction.
“I don’t think we can end wars, but what I do think is it’s important to keep on talking about the subjects which matter,” she explained during a new interview with Louder. “And the thing is, I think it’s good to have that conversation with everyone. Everybody should have this conversation. What kind of world do we wanna live in?”
“But I think as musicians, we don’t have an agenda. We are just one of those people feeling a bit powerless. And just talking about it and finding common ground with people who think differently, but also common ground with people who think the same way, you can exchange ideas. And hopefully, as long as we keep on talking to each other, that might bring some change in the future, hopefully,” the rocker added.
The singer also talked about her stance about the LGBTQ+ rights and how people started reacting differently once they knew she was supportive of it.
“It’s reflecting how people are thinking about how things are changing in society sometimes by things you post,” the rocker explained to Radio Bob!. “It’s, like, wow. I didn’t see this coming. But anyway, anyway, I’m not regretting it at all. So I’m really happy that it happened because it just cleans up the database [Laughs]. Who cannot stand for equality for everyone? It’s, like, come on.”
The conversation came after Den Adel shared a post on social media in September showing her support for the LGBTQ+ community. After her post, the singer lost around 20,000 followers on Instagram.
The rocker has voiced her views several times both in interviews and on social media. Den Adel also says she believes in democracy and debating, and this is her and the band’s way of keeping the subject alive.
