Limp Bizkit returned to the studio to work on a new album, their first since 2021’s ‘Still Sucks.’ Fred Durst announced the news on Instagram with a video of drummer John Otto recording tracks (per Consequence).
“Oh sh*t, in the studio with John Otto … we ’bout to lay it down with those drumsticks dawg,” Durst said in the clip. “Let’s get that funky funky. Let’s get that Limp Bizkit popping off.”
Limp Bizkit is using their break from touring to produce new music. They have a full schedule next year with a tour across Europe and the UK, and they will also be performing in North America with Metallica on the ‘M72’ tour.
The band is also involved in a legal dispute with Universal Music at the moment regarding unpaid royalties. They filed a lawsuit on October 8, claiming that Universal Music has been withholding royalties from them and potentially hundreds of other artists through a deceptive system.
The lawsuit alleges that Universal Music did not issue royalty statements from 1997 to 2004, which was when Limp Bizkit was most popular. It accuses the label of hiding sales figures to hold profits that rightfully belong to the band.
Fred Durst is looking to end his contracts with Universal Music for both Limp Bizkit and his label, Flawless Records. The $200 million suit includes several charges such as contract breach, concealment, and copyright infringement.
