Now that Spider-Man 4 is officially happening with Tom Holland back as the web-slinging superhero, a new rumor has surfaced online that possibly reveals what the upcoming sequel will be titled. Starring both Holland and Zendaya, the next Spider-Man film is set to release in theaters between the next two Avengers films, Doomsday and Secret Wars. If the latest report is to be trusted, then Spider-Man 4 will directly follow up the team-up film and potentially borrow the name of a controversial comic book storyline.
An early listing for Spider-Man 4 posted by Production Weekly, which previously revealed details about the Bourne sequel, includes a title for the MCU film – Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Additionally, the production listing features a potential plot breakdown, as well as a cast that mentions Andrew Garfield, Robert Downey Jr. and Michael Keaton. In all fairness, the information sounds like an amalgamation of everything fans believe the Spidey sequel will be about based on context clues surrounding the upcoming Avengers films. However, the story details do tease that Peter Parker may be retiring his alter-ego at some point in Doomsday, leading to him working his way back to wearing the suit again in Spider-Man 4. Here is the rumored plot synopsis:
“Following the events of Doomsday, Peter Parker is determined to lead a normal life and focus on college, stepping back from his responsibilities as Spider-Man. However, peace is short-lived when a deadly new threat emerges, endangering his friends and forcing Peter to reconsider his promise. With stakes higher than ever, Peter reluctantly returns to his Spider-Man identity and finds himself teaming up with an unlikely ally to protect those he loves.”
Of course, everything mentioned in this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. Given the amount of time before Spider-Man 4 actually begins production, there will be plenty of rumors and reports surrounding the exciting project. From Andrew Garfield returning to a potential team-up with Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock/Venom, speculation on what Spider-Man 4 is truly about is already rampant in the online discourse. Still, it is interesting to note that the production listing includes the potential title, teasing the departure from the usual “home” related phrase in the three-film franchise thus far.
Spider-Man 4 Could Be Based on Brand New Day
Released in 2008, Spider-Man: Brand New Day follows the events of Civil War and One More Day, which includes the Mephisto deal that saw Mary Jane resurrected in exchange for her shared history with Peter Parker being erased. One More Day was universally hated, but Brand New Day was generally well-received. If the title is accurate, Spider-Man 4 will more than likely simply borrow the title due to how it perfectly describes that new status quo Peter Parker finds himself in. With no one knowing who he is, he has a chance to be a regular person again outside the limelight. However, as the rumored plot synopsis alludes to, another Marvel character may be joining forces with Spider-Man to battle an unnamed threat in the film. We have our guesses on who that might be, of course.

Yes, he looks as glorious as we hoped he would.
The “unlikely ally” included in the reported synopsis could be none other than Eddie Brock as Venom, the heavily-rumored favorite to team up with Spidey in the upcoming film. Although Tom Hardy has made it clear that Venom: The Last Dance is the swan song for his interpretation of the anti-hero, he would also jump at the chance to interact with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the MCU. Of course, since every Holland-led film thus far includes a character well-established in the MCU, it may be someone else entirely. Could Chris Pratt return as Star-Lord after leaving the Guardians of the Galaxy? He is on planet Earth, after all.
