As recently announced on his official Instagram account, Jerry Cantrell’s guitar is missing, and there is a reward for it.
The post included some pictures of the guitar with the caption:
“Missing guitar: Unfortunately, over this past weekend, we believe Jerry Cantrell’s original Blue Dress G&L guitar was stolen from his car in either LA or San Bernardino/Highland. It is pictured here and was encased in a black G&L gig bag. The serial number is G016467. If you have seen the guitar or have any information regarding its whereabouts, please contact [email protected] immediately. We’re offering a reward to anyone who can help us locate the guitar. We sincerely appreciate your help.”
Fans Reacted To The News
The statement was full of comments expressing their sadness. One person wrote:
“Gotta get it back, that thing is part of our history as fans as well.”
Another fan said:
“I hope this gets returned to Jerry, this is wrong.”
One other individual commented, referring to the guitar’s importance:
“This isn’t a guitar; It is an iconic piece of rock and roll history and the sound of the greatest grunge band to come out of Seattle, period. I’m very sorry to read about the theft, Master Cantrell.”
The Guitar Is Very Important To Jerry
Cantrell bought the guitar in 1985 from a music store in Dallas. He previously said the following to MoPOP in an interview:
“That guitar has been on everything I’ve ever recorded, pretty much. 98.9% of every song you’ve ever heard [from me] that guitar is on there somewhere.”
The rocker got the idea for the circle/square design from Eddie Van Halen’s guitar. The ‘Rock’ stickers were from a local radio station that supported Alice In Chains early on. The pinup girl sticker, which gave the guitar its nickname, was from an old adult magazine.
