Ahead of the premiere of Silo Season 2 next month, the creator behind the Apple TV+ hit science fiction series is speaking out on just how long the show will last, and for fans who are expecting a long run, you’re going to be disappointed. Premiering in 2023, Silo became an immediate hit for Apple, garnering critical praise across the board thanks in part to the amazing performances of Tim Robbins, and Rebecca Ferguson, who’s become an audience favorite since appearing in Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and the 2019 horror flick Doctor Sleep.
Speaking with Total Film (via GamesRadar), creator Graham Yost offered an update on Silo – which is based on the novels by author Hugh Howey – saying that there are “plans for how the series would play out if we get to do the whole thing,” but he stopped short of giving a specific number as to how many seasons there will be. “That number’s between me and my friends at Apple TV Plus,” he said.

Tim Robbins says Silo has an amazing U.K. based production team, unlike the negative algorithm of Hollywood that he feels has to be addressed.
With that in mind, Yost made mention of the source material only being a trilogy, meaning that when it comes to adapting it for TV, we shouldn’t look for the series to stretch beyond what’s in the books. He commented that it’s “not Outlander,” which currently has nine novels in its saga, but did give fans hope that all of their questions will be answered in due time.
“The books are a trilogy. This is not Outlander. This is not a long science fiction series. It’s a trilogy. We’re not going to extend it beyond that. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be three seasons, but it’s not going to be 10. It is our goal to answer questions and not frustrate the audience, but deliver things in a logical time, so that when our characters find something out, that’s when the audience finds out.”
Though Yost didn’t land on a specific number of seasons for Silo, we can still glean a little insight into how long the series might last if it follows the novels by Howey. Beginning in 2011 with the book Wool, there are five parts to his literary debut, with the first season of the dystopian sci-fi tale coinciding with the ending to part three. That means we still have two more parts to go, and with Season 2 featuring yet another 10 episodes, we’ll most likely get to the end of Wool and possibly bleed a little into the second book in the series, Shift.
It’s safe to surmise that if Silo continues to follow that trend, fans can expect roughly four or five seasons in total if Apple pulls the trigger and renews it each year. That’s a tough ask right now, considering they’re looking to cut costs and canceling many shows before they even have a chance to find their audience. However, with Silo now entering into its second season next month, as long as the viewership numbers remain strong in their eyes, it’s a safe bet they’ll keep it on their roster, as the service has found its greatest success with other sci-fi shows such as Severance, Foundation, and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.
