One of the earlier action movie roles for action hero superstar Jason Statham is all set to race its way onto Prime Video this Friday. Statham is, of course, now considered to be one of the best action movie stars of all time, with his characters often depicted as gruff fighting experts who are quicker to use their fists than their words. Well, in a slight change of pace, fans can watch The Stath turn on the charm in The Italian Job, which is due to land on the streaming platform on November 1.
Starring alongside an all-star ensemble cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, Charlize Theron, Edward Norton, Seth Green, Mos Def, and Donald Sutherland, The Stath plays crew member Handsome Rob. Rather than a straight-up remake, The Italian Job is inspired by the 1969 British movie of the same name starring Michael Caine, and follows a gang of thieves who find themselves up against one of their own after being double-crossed. You can check out the official synopsis below.
“After a heist in Venice, Steve turns on his partners in crime, killing safecracker John Bridger and keeping all the gold for himself; the rest of the team, including leader Charlie Croker, driver Handsome Rob, explosives man Left Ear and tech geek Lyle, vows revenge; they enlist the help of Bridger’s daughter, Stella and plot to recover the gold from Steve’s Los Angeles mansion.”
The Italian Job Is Certainly One of the Better Remakes
Directed by F. Gary Gray, The Italian Job is one of the better remakes (because, despite it being “inspired” by the original, it’s still kind of a remake) and stands at 73% on the Tomatometer and 80% on the Popcornmeter. The action heist outing finds Jason Statham playing a different kind of character than fans are perhaps used to. Rather than solve all his problems with his fists and his feet, Statham’s wheelman instead uses his granite jaw and grizzled charm to get out of trouble.

Taking things back to the more action thriller fare, Statham will next lead Levon’s Trade. Directed by David Ayer, written by Sylvester Stallone, and based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Chuck Dixon, Levon’s Trade follows Statham as Levon Cade, a former counter-terrorism expert who leaves his violent career behind to work in construction and be a good father. But, when a local girl goes missing, Levon is asked to return to his skills and hunt for her.
But this is far from all the action movie escapades that Statham has in the works. The action icon is all set to return as Deckard Shaw for the eleventh and final Fast and Furious movie, as well as lead Plane director Jean-François Richet’s Mutiny, which finds him on the run after his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered. We are also still awaiting the official word on The Beekeeper 2, which will likely pull back the curtain on Statham’s mysterious Adam Clay and the clandestine organization he once worked, and killed, for.
