Timothée Chalamet may not have won the $50 prize, but the star of the upcoming Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, delighted those in attendance when he crashed his own look-alike contest in Lower Manhattan’s Washington Square Park. The nearly 10-acre park, which is located in Greenwich Village, was loaded with eager hopefuls wanting to walk away with the aforementioned cash prize. And, out of nowhere, Chalamet showed up to the astonishment of the crowd to join in the festivities, and he hugged a couple of Chalamet copycats on the spot. Check out the actor crashing the doppelgänger party (below) on October 27.
Chalamet’s meteoric rise to stardom didn’t happen right away, but his recurring role on the television series Homeland was helpful for the young thespian. Then 2017 turned out to be a breakout year for Chalamet as he appeared in Greta Gerwig’s Lady Bird, and he then made some serious waves as the romantic lead in Call Me by Your Name, along with pariah Armie Hammer. Chalamet continued to rack up the film credits the following year with appearances in Beautiful Boy with Steve Carell, and then he landed one of the lead roles in outcast Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day in New York, alongside his A Complete Unknown co-star, Elle Fanning.
Today, Chalamet is a worldwide sensation, who is now known globally as Paul Atreides, aka the Muad’Dib, in filmmaker Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies. Plus, Chalamet is recognized as the modern-day Willy Wonka thanks to his stellar performance in the 2023 film from Warner Bros. Next, the Oscar-nominated (Call Me by Your Name | Best Actor) Chalamet will portray music icon Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.
Timothée Chalamet Shows Off His ‘Acting Brilliance’ in A Complete Unknown
Before Timothée Chalamet picks up the ping pong paddle to portray Marty Reisman, the Dune and Wonka star will play out Bob Dylan’s life from 1961 until 1965 in James Mangold’s movie, A Complete Unknown. And Mangold had nothing but good things to say about his film’s 28-year-old lead in an interview with Rolling Stone. The director said:
“I think he walks a really beautiful line of allowing an audience to see what a joy it is for this character to make music and what pure joy he experiences in his camaraderie with other musicians and his exploration of ideas and words and music, both making it and listening to others.
Where Timmy also does something really quite profound is to show you his almost genetically predisposed discomfort with what his own great achievements then bring upon him and that, in terms of people wanting things, transactional relationships, or relationships that are tainted by the immense power and talent.”
Mangold, who has been nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Adapted Screenplay | Logan and Best Picture | Ford v Ferrari) continued speaking about Chalamet during the same sit-down:
“And Timmy really carries this character from a 19-year-old boy telling tales of working on the carnival into this person that we recognize as an icon. Timmy finds the path to carry us there. It’s going to be impossible for people in trailers or teasers or photos to see, but the way he grows this character is a real act of acting brilliance in my opinion.”
