David Lee Roth has now fired back at his former bandmate Alex Van Halen with a new video.
Alex Van Halen has been firing at DLR in some recent interviews and statements. In response to these messages, Roth released a new video. In the video, he is seen dancing to ‘Dance The Night Away,’ a cheerful Van Halen song.
The former frontman hadn’t released a similar dancing video in five months before this previous one.
The video came after Alex talked about Roth’s split from Van Halen.
“Me, Ed, and Dave were very subversive in the way we looked at music and the political system and the way we looked at people in general…The band was dysfunctional,” he explained. “It was completely running on three wheels, if you will. I think Ed was quoted as saying ‘but we always played well,’ and that was ultimately what kept it together until it was no longer together. It was a very sad moment when that whole thing fell apart.”
The rocker also talked about it in his memoir, ‘Brothers.’ He explained the complex relationship between Roth and the Van Halen brothers, and revealed why Roth officially left the band after the success of ‘Jump.’
“He couldn’t handle the fact that Eddie was getting more attention than he was,” Alex wrote. “He kept asking Eddie to play fewer guitar solos. Dave was convinced he was going to be a movie star.”
As a result, the version of the band Alex calls ‘the real Van Halen’ fell apart, even as the album climbed to No. 1 on Billboard’s chart. Alex describes this moment as “the most disappointing thing I’d experienced in my life, the thing that seemed the most wasteful and unjust.”
Although Roth hasn’t responded to the drummer’s comments publicly, the video he posted can be considered a response.
