A new MCU rumor may have just revealed the fate of Mahershala Ali’s Blade, as well as the current status of the Midnight Sons film. Although the vampire film has gone dark with yet another indefinite delay, that doesn’t mean Ali’s future as the superhero is over before it even begins. Blade‘s production hiccups have led Marvel Studios to reportedly consider shelving the solo film for now, and instead introducing the character in a bigger, supernatural-filled MCU crossover film.
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, the indefinite delay for the Blade film now means that the long-rumored Mightnight Sons film is happening a lot sooner than originally speculated. With no director or a release date attached to Blade, Marvel is now prioritizing bringing the vampire hunter into the MCU fold via an alternative method with familiar characters. The Midnight Sons project was originally reported to be in development earlier this year with no development status, but it now seems to be the first time audiences will see Ali’s Blade on the big screen. In the comics, the Midnight Sons is a team filled with the world’s darker and more supernatural superheroes, considered a more ground-level version of the Avengers.
Midnight Sons rumors made the rounds after Marvel released the Special Presentation Werewolf by Night in 2022, which teased the supernatural side of the cinematic universe. Neither the studio nor Kevin Feige have confirmed the existence of this project, but Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac has already pondered the extremely high possibility of his superhero appearing in the team-up film. If the film ends up happening, there is also a real chance that composer Michael Giacchino, who made his directorial debut with Werewolf by Night, could end up helming the supernatural crossover.
Wait, Who’s in the Midnight Sons Movie?
Although there have been several distinct iterations of the team, most Midnight Sons lineups consist of Moon Knight, Man-Thing, Ghost Rider, Morbius, and Blade. Meanwhile, Moon Knight star Oscar Isaac has already pondered the extremely high possibility of his superhero appearing in the team-up film. After his Disney+ series introduced the character to general audiences, it only made sense that the next time we see Moon Knight would be alongside other similar heroes in his corner of the MCU.
“I thought there was an interesting opportunity with Midnight Suns. There’s such interesting characters in there, and now that we’ve set the groundwork with learning who Marc, Steven, Jake are, it could be an interesting opportunity to see him as part of a team and what that dynamic would be. So I think that would be exciting, I think for me, I definitely hope there’s some room to explore that possibility.”

Marvel’s Blade Delay Is Good News for Fantastic Four
While fans might be frustrated at another delay to Blade, it is good news for The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
For those unfamiliar with Marvel video games, the comic book team recently got an adaptation titled Midnight Suns. Instead of a supernatural-only lineup of heroes, the game included every major Marvel character, like Spider-Man and Doctor Stranger, but with a slightly darker twist. Of course, it remains to be seen if the rumored film project will follow this direction, and whether it’s actually happening or not. However, judging by the fact that the MCU has made a point of introducing Jack Russell (Werewolf by Night), Man-Thing, and Moon Knight, expect a comic-accurate depiction of the squad.
