Hellbound Season 2 is officially on the way to Netflix this week, after impressing critics and audiences alike with a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score. The horror fantasy thriller was the most-watched show on Netflix when it debuted in 2021. The second season will look to one-up the first with an even bigger, badder installment that will see the formerly condemned come back to life to haunt the living.
The next season of Hellbound arrives on Netflix on October 25, just in time for the spooky holiday season. As the teaser reveals, fans of the acclaimed series will be thrown back into the chaos of a post-apocalyptic version of South Korea, which still grapples with the shadowy beings that once took out a good chunk of its population. A mixture of high-fantasy and graphic horror, the visually frenetic first season captured millions across the world, enrapturing viewers just like the supernatural “angels” that condemned those in hell that have now returned to the land of the living.
While the first Hellbound season featured dark, Hulk-like beings taking souls from Earth, it seems that the “monsters” this time around are a bit more mobile and creepier. The new creatures arrive just as the leader of the religious cult The New Truth, Jung Jinsu, returns from the dead. It seems the storyline will now focus on the after effects of the events of the first season, challenging the initial presumption that condemnation has led to the creation of a new hell on Earth.
Hellbound Season 2 Cast, Plot & Release Date Details
Widely regarded as one of the better thriller offerings on Netflix, Hellbound first followed mythical beings sent to Earth to take the souls of the humans and send them to hell. The apocalyptic event, which is magnificently captured through a horrifying and surreal lens, leads to the creation of a religous cult that attempts to find a new meaning of divine justice. Yes, the bloody action and horror aspects are thrilling to say the least, but Hellbound has more on its mind than just mindless violence. And it seems that the new season will be building upon those ideas. The official synopsis for Season 2 from Netflix:
“Jung Jinsu, founder of the religious cult the New Truth, is back after being condemned to hell for several years. Upon his return, he realizes the dicta of the New Truth and its more extreme sect, the Arrowhead, now rule society. But when Jinsu finds out he’s not the only one who’s come back to the land of the living, he seeks to understand what being resurrected has done to — and for — him. Is resurrection
really
damnation, as the New Truth preaches, or could it be the path to true salvation?”

The first season of Hellbound featured a standout cast of Korean actors, including Yoo Ah-in, Kim Hyun-joo, Park Jeong-min, Won Jin-ah, Yang Ik-Joon, Kim Do-yoon, Kim Shin-rock, and Ryu Kyung-soo. After the finale teased the return of condemned characters and revealed the lies behind The New Truth’s belief that people were taken to hell due to committing sins, Hellbound has to now grapple with a new reality and a reality-defying mystery that still must be explained. Twists and turns are no stranger to the series, but Season 2 has some heavy lifting to do, unless Netflix plans to stretch it for more seasons to keep the audience coming in droves.
