Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds may have just revealed that a new MCU Holiday Special featuring the Merc with a Mouth is on the way. No stranger to the holiday season, Deadpool may once again be saving Christmas, this time as a part of a much larger cinematic universe. Nothing is set in stone yet, or officially confirmed, but all indications point towards a Deadpool movie reunion featuring a few fan-favorite characters.
Reynolds posted on his Instagram story images of himself in the Deadpool suit from Deadpool & Wolverine, as well as the caption “That was fun today.” He is then seen alongside fellow Deadpool star Leslie Uggams, who plays Blind Al in the R-rated superhero franchise. In the background of the second image, Christmas decorations can be seen hung around the apartment the longtime friends share. Of course, it’s unclear if this is anything more than a quick skit for social media, or something more significant. However, it is hard to disagree that a Deadpool-led holiday special in the MCU would be exactly what the doctor ordered after breaking box office records earlier this year.
Marvel Studios previously released James Gunn’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special to widespread acclaim, especially for its sincere nature and connection to the MCU trilogy. It’s unclear if the Deadpool project is as elaborate or connected to the movies, but it’s important enough for Reynolds to don the red and black suit alongside a franchise mainstay. Could Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine find it within himself to celebrate the holiday season? Only time will tell.
A Merry Deadpool Christmas Could Be on the Way
Although everyone very much assumed we’d see Reynolds, and Jackman, for that matter, suit up again in the MCU, it could be much sooner rather than later. Every rumor points to the R-rated duo appearing in Avengers: Secret Wars, but perhaps a holiday special is more suited for them. Of course, it would likely have to be less raunchy than the film series, especially since it would have to be released on Disney+. The original Deadpool 2 physical release got a holiday edition with new footage of Deadpool, but it remains to be seen if Deadpool & Wolverine will follow suit with a similar strategy. In either case, anything as lengthy as the Guardians special seems unlikely at this point.

An extended version of Deadpool & Wolverine is certainly possible, especially since deleted scenes have already made it on the internet. However, the physical release is already jam-packed with features and bonus content, so another edition would probably sell like hot cakes, but may be overkill. Still, it’s hard to imagine a better way to celebrate the success of Deadpool, with a free treat for fans of the character and the MCU. If Disney can find a way to squeeze the life out of the property, that will likely happen, too, we suppose. Until any confirmation arrives, fans can sit tight by the fireplace and wait for the ultimate MCU holiday gift to arrive, or a bag of coal, in true Deadpool fashion.
